Trabzonspor enters official talks to sign Mohamed Salah

Turkish club Trabzonspor announced on Tuesday that it has officially begun negotiations to sign Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah, expressing hope that the deal will be completed within the week.

In a statement posted on X, the club said it has formally initiated talks over Salah’s transfer to the team, without disclosing any financial details.

Club president Ertuğrul Doğan told A Spor TV that Salah is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday for a medical examination before heading to Trabzon to sign the contract, adding that the official announcement is likely to be made on Thursday.

Salah’s potential move comes after his departure from Liverpool this summer, ending a nine-year spell with the English club during which he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances and helped secure two Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, and several domestic honors.

The Egypt national team captain enjoyed an outstanding 2024-2025 season, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists in the Premier League, earning the Golden Boot, Playmaker of the Season, and Player of the Season awards—an unprecedented sweep of all three honors in a single campaign.

However, his form dipped last season, with 7 goals and 7 assists in 27 league matches. He was also left out of the starting lineup for several Champions League games amid a public dispute with then-Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

Salah, 34, began his European career with Swiss side Basel in 2012 before moving to Chelsea, then playing for Fiorentina and Roma, and joining Liverpool in 2017.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League qualifiers. The club hopes Salah’s signing will boost its domestic and continental ambitions.
