Manchester City defeat Sunderland 5-3 to claim Premier League top spot

Manchester City secured a dramatic 5-3 victory over Sunderland on Sunday in the Premier League, moving to the top of the table with 15 points, three ahead of reigning champions Arsenal, who lost to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring for City in the ninth minute with a superb free kick, catching the Sunderland goalkeeper off guard as the Argentine sent the ball directly into the net instead of crossing.

Bryan Brobbey quickly equalized for Sunderland in the 12th minute, finishing easily past Gianluigi Donnarumma after a pass between the defenders. Ryan Sessegnon restored City's lead in the 29th minute with a low shot from inside the box.

In the 33rd minute, Brobbey struck again to level the score after a pass from Thomas Meunier, with the goal confirmed by VAR. Two minutes before halftime, Antoine Semenyo put City ahead again with a powerful strike from inside the area.

Second half: Haaland shines

Manchester City maintained their pressure in the second half, with their striker adding a fourth goal 12 minutes after the restart. Brobbey completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute after a pass from Nelson Angulo, reducing the deficit to 4-3.

With nine minutes remaining, Erling Haaland sealed the win for City, finishing off a pass from Joško Gvardiol to make it 5-3. With this goal, Haaland has now scored against all 25 teams he has faced in the Premier League.

Sunderland remain on four points from five matches, sitting 14th out of 20 teams in the standings.
