Saudi Shura Council calls for Encouraging Investments

Saudi Shura Council called on the Ministry of Investment to encourage investments in entertainment, tourism, culture, and media. This is to support economic growth and increase employment opportunities.

Dr. Yahya al-Samaan, assistant speaker of the Shura Council; said after Sunday's ordinary session that the council got a brief on the Committee of Economy and Energy's stance from the opinions of members on the annual report of the Ministry of Investment for the past fiscal year.

The Council called on the Ministry to set specific indicators on the contribution of foreign investment. This is also to create job opportunities for qualified national cadres.

It urged the Ministry to coordinate with relevant government agencies on a unified platform for marketing and promotion. This is to attract foreign investment.

Regarding the annual report of the General Authority for Audiovisual Media for the last fiscal year; the Council demanded indicators on the development of investment in media and its platforms, and the extent of its contribution to developing local content.

It also called on the General Authority to develop a plan to control and rationalize some expenditures.

Moreover; the session witnessed the approval of an air services agreement between the Saudi and Mauritanian governments, and a draft MoU. This is for cooperation between MCIT and the Ministry of Science and Information Technology and Communications in South Korea.

A draft MoU for cooperation in electronic government between MCIT and the Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety was also endorsed.
