Crown prince meets Turkish president in Makkah

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.

The meeting took place during President Erdogan’s official working visit to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Turkey, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan announced today the signing of the "Makkah Joint Defense Agreement" during a summit hosted in Makkah at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

According to a joint statement, the summit was held at the Royal Court in Al-Safa Palace, where Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The leaders discussed the strong relations among the three countries and a range of issues of mutual interest, emphasizing their historic ties, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests.

Objectives of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement

The statement explained that the agreement aims to strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression, stipulating that an armed attack on any of the three nations would be considered an attack on all. It also focuses on developing all aspects of defense cooperation among them.

The leaders stressed the importance of the agreement in enhancing security, peace, and stability in the region and the world, seeking a secure and prosperous future for their countries and peoples.
