Tanzanian father and daughter compete in King Abdulaziz Quran contest in Makkah

Makkah hosted a notable delegation from the United Republic of Tanzania at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Quran, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance.

The Tanzanian participation was led by Hasan Suleiman Omar, director of a Quranic center in Tanzania, who accompanied his daughter as she competed on the global stage. Omar described the news of their selection as a source of immense joy for his family and the wider Tanzanian community, saying: "We received the news with great anticipation and overwhelming happiness. The joy was not limited to the parents, but extended to the entire family, and indeed, all of Tanzania celebrated this announcement."

Videos circulated on social media in Tanzania captured the family's arrival in Makkah and their stay at a hotel near the Grand Mosque, with widespread praise for the warm welcome and hospitality they received in Saudi Arabia.

Hasan Suleiman Omar oversees a Quranic center with around 300 male and female students enrolled in Quran memorization circles. His daughter's participation marks the first time a girl from the center has competed internationally, as previous representation was limited to boys—a significant milestone for the center's future ambitions.
