Key Takeaways

AI

Saudi Arabia continues to consolidate its leading position on the global digital map by prioritizing data and artificial intelligence technologies as a key pillar of the Saudi Vision 2030 goals. This is achieved through an integrated approach that balances advanced technological innovation with the development of national human capital, while establishing ethical governance frameworks to ensure responsible use of technology.

With 2026 declared the "Year of Artificial Intelligence," the Kingdom has intensified its efforts, led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), to highlight significant achievements in developing and governing advanced technologies. These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to leveraging AI as a driver of inclusive growth, improved quality of life, and as an international model for sustainable development.

Global achievements and competitive indicators

During the 2026 Year of AI, Saudi Arabia ranked 13th globally out of 70 countries in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook, and third among G20 nations. The Kingdom also placed fourth worldwide in the index for AI adoption in companies, driven by initiatives such as the "Pioneers Package" and incentive programs promoting AI ethics.

In the index measuring societal access to AI, Saudi Arabia ranked fourth globally, thanks to SDAIA’s efforts to spread digital knowledge and build national capabilities through the SDAIA Academy and the "Samai" initiative, which has trained 1.2 million Saudis in artificial intelligence. The International Monetary Fund also praised the Kingdom’s progress in adopting AI across various sectors.

Developing national talent and technology governance

Saudi Arabia’s ambitious vision relies on a pivotal role for SDAIA in shaping policies, developing infrastructure and regulatory frameworks, and empowering both public and private sectors to benefit from data and AI solutions. Young national talent forms the foundation of this transformation, supported by training and academic programs that equip students, researchers, and innovators with world-class skills to compete globally.

On the governance and ethics front, the Kingdom places great importance on regulating the development and application of AI according to global standards based on transparency, fairness, and privacy protection. These measures aim to mitigate risks, achieve sustainable development, and foster partnerships and knowledge exchange with international organizations and academic institutions.
