The "Global Event for Satellite Connectivity and Sustainability" will begin next Monday at the headquarters of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission in Riyadh, under the patronage of Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Commission's Board of Directors.

The event, organized in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will run for three days under the theme "A Connected World and Sustainable Space." It brings together the third editions of the International Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) Forum and the Space Sustainability Forum (SSF) under one umbrella, reflecting unified international efforts to support innovation in non-terrestrial networks and space sustainability.

The event aims to discuss global trends shaping the future of satellite communications and to enhance the integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. It will also review regulatory and technological developments in these networks and their applications in expanding connectivity and bridging the global digital divide. In addition, the event will highlight space sustainability and optimal resource utilization through the exchange of expertise and international best practices.

Main topics and research awards

The Communications, Space and Technology Commission stated that the event will address several key topics, including integrated communications for the 6G era, preparations for the WRC-27 conference, direct-to-device (D2D) satellite communications, the space economy and emerging markets, and the role of space as a critical infrastructure.

Other topics include leveraging space for Earth's sustainability, global governance and responsible behavior in space, as well as managing orbital congestion, mitigating interference, and preventing space debris.

The event will also showcase the results of leading technical trials and connectivity solutions via non-terrestrial networks, and announce the winners of the Global Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN 2026) Research Competition, which is organized by the Commission in collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The Commission invited interested parties to register and learn more about the event through its website: https://scs26.sa/ar/.
