33 contestants advance in King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition finals

The final rounds of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for Quran Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in Makkah, continued with 33 male and female contestants from 28 countries participating on the second day of the finals.

Judging panels for both male and female participants listened to the recitations of 17 male contestants at the Grand Mosque and 16 female contestants at the competition venue, during morning and evening sessions.

This brings the total number of contestants heard by the panels over the first two days to 66 participants from more than 40 countries, as part of the finals schedule running through next Thursday.

Electronic judging and broad participation

A select group of international judges specializing in Quranic sciences, recitations, and rules of recitation are evaluating the contestants using an electronic judging system, enhancing accuracy and ensuring fairness across all competition categories.

This year’s edition features 334 contestants from 133 countries, competing in five categories: memorizing the entire Quran with the seven canonical readings according to Al-Shatibiyyah, memorizing the entire Quran with interpretation of its vocabulary, memorizing the entire Quran with excellence in performance and tajweed, memorizing fifteen consecutive parts, and memorizing five consecutive parts with excellence in performance and tajweed.
