Sudan condemns Houthi drone attack on Mecca, voices support for Saudi Arabia

The government of the Republic of Sudan has strongly condemned the Houthi militia's drone attack targeting Mecca, describing it as a grave provocation to the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.

In a statement, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the targeting of Mecca and the Grand Mosque constitutes a heinous assault and a blatant violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.

The ministry stressed that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, other sacred sites, and the safety of their visitors must not be compromised or threatened, warning that any hostile acts or use of these sites in conflicts represents a serious and unacceptable escalation.

The Sudanese government emphasized the importance of respecting the sanctity of holy places and keeping them free from escalation, in order to safeguard the security and stability of Saudi Arabia and the wider region.

The statement also expressed Sudan’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and affirmed its support for the Kingdom’s legitimate right to take necessary measures to protect its security, territorial integrity, the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques, and the safety of pilgrims.
