Key Takeaways
AIEmad Gad, adviser at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, said that any decision to deploy Egyptian forces abroad requires approval from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the parliament.
Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya FM, Gad noted that parliament has been called to convene to authorize the Egyptian president to support Saudi Arabia. He explained that Egyptian participation could involve sending air defense units to the border to counter any missiles or drones targeting Saudi territory.
Gad added that Egypt possesses highly advanced air forces capable of fulfilling Saudi Arabia’s requests, whether securing its territory or participating in air operations against Houthi positions. He emphasized the strong ties and shared interests between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, stating that the Kingdom’s security is part of Egypt’s national security.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has previously warned that Egypt will not allow the security of Gulf states to be compromised, urging all parties to end the conflict and violence.
He added that, according to the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Egypt will take any necessary measures to protect and defend Saudi Arabia.
