Jeddah Islamic Port customs seize over 58 kg of methamphetamine

Customs officials at Jeddah Islamic Port have foiled an attempt to smuggle 58.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, also known as shabu, which was discovered hidden in a shipment arriving in the Kingdom through the port.

According to Hamoud Al-Harbi, spokesperson for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the shipment, which arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port, was declared as containing men's shoes. During customs procedures and security inspections using advanced technology and sniffer dogs, the drugs were found concealed inside cavities within the shoes.

Al-Harbi added that after the seizure, coordination took place with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to ensure the arrest of those expecting to receive the contraband inside the Kingdom. Three individuals were apprehended as a result.

The spokesperson stressed that the authority remains committed, through all its customs outlets, to maintaining strict control over imports and exports, and stands vigilant against smuggling attempts. This effort is a key part of its strategy to enhance community safety and security by preventing the entry of drugs and other prohibited items, in cooperation with partners such as the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

Reports related to smuggling crimes and customs violations are handled confidentially, and informants may be eligible for a financial reward if the information proves accurate.
