Saudi Food and Drug Authority blocks over 301 tons of tainted food imports in Q2 2026

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority announced it had prevented more than 301 tons of non-compliant food products from entering the Kingdom during the second quarter of 2026, after tests confirmed contamination with microbes that could cause food poisoning.

The authority said this action is part of its ongoing regulatory efforts to protect consumer health and ensure compliance with approved standards and regulations, reflecting the effectiveness of its food safety oversight system in safeguarding public health.

During the same period, the authority conducted 17,096 inspection visits to regulated establishments, resulting in the detection of 1,960 violating facilities and 1,016 non-compliant products, as part of its drive to raise compliance levels and verify adherence to technical regulations and standards.

The authority stressed the importance of adhering to official regulations and legislation, affirming its continued monitoring of products and facilities under its supervision and its commitment to taking legal action against violators, which may include suspension of activity, imprisonment, or fines of up to SAR 10 million.
