The Saudi Water Authority has closed five water filling stations, known as "Ashyab," in Tabuk following inspection tours conducted in cooperation with relevant authorities. The inspections aimed to verify water quality and ensure service providers’ compliance with technical and regulatory requirements to protect public health, the environment, and consumer safety.

According to a statement from the authority, the closures were based on water quality samples that failed to meet approved standards. Additionally, 144 violations were recorded for operating without a license, with legal measures taken against the offenders.

In response, the authority’s branch in the Northwestern Region coordinated with the National Water Company to provide licensed alternatives for consumers. The number of filling stations was increased from one to three, operating hours were extended, and the readiness of licensed transport companies was enhanced. Efforts are also underway to attract new investors in the filling and transport sectors.

The authority added that these measures have led to a surge in demand for licensed water transport services from the National Water Company, rising from a maximum of five requests to more than 85 requests daily. This supports consumer protection, supply chain sustainability, compliance, and greater private sector participation in water services.

Emphasis on licensing and compliance standards

The Saudi Water Authority stressed that all water filling and transport operators must comply with licensing requirements and regulatory frameworks, including water quality standards. The authority affirmed that legal action will be taken against violators in accordance with the Water Law and its executive regulations.

The authority urged unlicensed operators to obtain the necessary permits, emphasizing that operating without a license is a clear violation subject to statutory fines.
