Thunderstorms and flash floods expected in several Saudi regions today

The National Center for Meteorology, in its daily report on Sunday, forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms that may lead to flash floods, accompanied by hail, in parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions.

The report added that rain-bearing thunderclouds may also form over parts of Najran, Riyadh, Qassim, Hail, and Madinah, with active winds stirring dust and sand in those areas, as well as in parts of Tabuk, Al-Jouf, and the Northern Borders region.

The meteorology report also indicated that hot to extremely hot weather will persist in parts of the Eastern Province.

Wind and sea conditions

The report stated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be westerly to northwesterly at 15-40 km/h in the northern and central parts, and southwesterly to northwesterly at 10-30 km/h, reaching over 50 km/h with thunderclouds in the southern part.

Wave heights will range from half a meter to one and a half meters, rising to over two meters with thunderstorms in the southern part. Sea conditions will be light to moderate, becoming rough with thunderclouds.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be southwesterly to northwesterly, shifting at night to southeasterly then southwesterly in the northern and central parts, and southerly turning in the afternoon to northwesterly then southwesterly in the southern part at 10-28 km/h. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter, with light sea conditions.
