Tabuk leads Saudi grape production with over 1.5 million vines

Tabuk region has emerged as the top grape-producing area in Saudi Arabia, contributing nearly 40% of the Kingdom’s total output with more than 1.5 million fruit-bearing grapevines. This achievement stands out as one of the country’s leading agricultural success stories.

Amjad bin Abdullah Thalab, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s Tabuk branch, said this leadership in grape production reflects the region’s promising agricultural potential and the efforts of local farmers to develop farming practices, boost production efficiency, and improve fruit quality.

Thalab noted that the ministry supports farmers by providing technical and advisory services, and encourages the adoption of modern agricultural technologies to optimize water use, increase farm productivity, and enhance product quality, ensuring that grapes reach markets meeting appropriate standards.

He added that grape varieties cultivated in Tabuk include Prime, Superior, Red Globe, Autumn Royal, Moon Balls, and Evans—high-quality types that are popular in local markets. Thalab also highlighted the importance of expanding grape-related processing industries, such as raisin, juice, and molasses production, to create added value and new investment opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.

Economic opportunities and supply chain development

Grapes from Tabuk are in high demand among consumers during harvest season, thanks to the diversity of varieties and superior fruit quality. Agricultural markets and sales outlets play a key role in promoting local products and strengthening their presence among consumers.

The economic potential of grape crops extends beyond fresh sales to include packaging, refrigeration, transportation, food processing, and even agritourism, which allows visitors to explore farms and experience grape production and harvesting firsthand.
