Saudi Urban Sciences Society head: 1,360 labor housing permits reflect focus on quality of life

Ghazi Al-Abbasi, chairman of the Saudi Urban Sciences Society, highlighted the importance of issuing permits for labor accommodation.

Speaking to Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Abbasi said that granting 1,360 permits for labor housing marks a significant shift in regulating workers’ accommodation and demonstrates a commitment to improving quality of life for this group.

He added that this move reflects a qualitative leap in prioritizing quality of life, noting that in the past, labor accommodations were often overcrowded, unregulated, and prone to disease, despite the vital role workers play in daily life. He stressed that health considerations are especially important in this context.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing has issued more than 1,360 permits for collective housing for individuals, including preliminary licenses, since the requirement for companies to house workers in licensed group accommodations began in September 2025.

The ministry stated that licensing applications have seen significant growth, reflecting increased awareness among companies of the importance of complying with approved regulations, and ongoing efforts to improve workers’ housing conditions, organize the sector, and enhance service efficiency.
