Saudi Arabia condemns Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over occupied Golan Heights

Saudi Arabia has condemned the Colombian government's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, stating that the move contravenes international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Colombia's recognition clearly violates relevant United Nations laws, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel's imposition of its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan null and void and without legal effect.

Saudi Arabia stressed that such positions do not contribute to achieving peace, but rather represent a departure from the longstanding international stance on the occupied Syrian Golan, reinforce the logic of imposing a fait accompli, and undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region.

The Kingdom reaffirmed its firm position that the Golan is occupied Syrian Arab land, stressing that any measures or decisions aimed at changing its legal status do not create rights or confer legitimacy on such actions.

Saudi Arabia called on the Colombian government to reconsider its position, adhere to international law and relevant international resolutions, and continue supporting efforts to achieve security, stability, and a just and lasting peace in the region.
