Political analyst Hassan Al-Shihri has said the Saudi-led maritime coalition represents a strategic step toward redefining maritime security in the region, reflecting a shift from protecting national interests to contributing to the security of the global economic system.

Speaking to Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Shihri stated that the formation of the coalition marks a move from focusing solely on national interests to participating in the protection of the global economy, given the strategic importance of international maritime corridors.

He explained that the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait are among the most vital routes for global trade, and their security is directly linked to the world economy, noting that Saudi Arabia is fully aware of this significance.

He added that the coalition was established in response to shared maritime threats and challenges, and reflects the member states’ conviction that securing international sea lanes is a joint responsibility requiring coordination and cooperation among participating nations.

Al-Shihri emphasized that the coalition is purely defensive in nature, does not target any country, organization, or alliance, and operates in line with the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter.
