Abdulaziz bin Laboun, chairman of the Saudi Geologists’ Society, has said that earthquakes and volcanoes are natural phenomena that occur only by the will of God, emphasizing that all interpretations of these events fall within the realm of scientific and personal effort.

Speaking to the "Ya Hala" program on Rotana Khalijia, bin Laboun noted that while earthquakes and volcanoes can cause destruction and loss of life, their benefits to humanity outweigh their harm.

He explained that among the key benefits of earthquakes and volcanoes are maintaining the balance of the earth’s crust, bringing new rocks and minerals to the surface, and releasing gases. He highlighted that these natural phenomena play a vital role in the earth’s geological system.

He added, “Without earthquakes and volcanoes, the earth would explode,” describing them as “a vital outlet for the immense energy stored within the planet.”

Bin Laboun also pointed out that all explanations for these phenomena remain within the scope of scientific interpretation, reaffirming that their occurrence is subject to God’s will.
