Brother of Saudi drowned in northern Turkey recounts tragic incident

Omar Al-Harbi, brother of Abdulaziz Al-Harbi who drowned in northern Turkey, recounted the events of his brother’s drowning and his own efforts to rescue him.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, he explained that he and his brother were heading to the city of Mercabi when Abdulaziz fell into the river, where the current was very strong. Omar said he tried to reach him without hesitation.

Al-Harbi described the situation as extremely dangerous, noting that it took about 20 minutes for rescue teams to arrive. He praised the efforts of the Saudi government and the Kingdom’s embassy and consulate in Turkey for supporting the family and arranging the repatriation of Abdulaziz’s body to Riyadh.

Abdulaziz Al-Harbi, a 39-year-old Saudi citizen, drowned several days ago after slipping into a fast-flowing stream, despite rescue attempts by his companions and Turkish emergency teams.
