Key Takeaways
AIIbrahim Al-Sultan, CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, announced the signing of contracts to purchase 94 new trains, increasing the city’s fleet from 183 to 277 trains. This expansion coincides with a program to upgrade the city’s main and ring road corridors, with new bridges and tunnels set to open gradually over the next four years.
Speaking at a government press conference, Al-Sultan said the road upgrades include the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road with King Salman Road, with new free-flow lanes to improve east-west traffic.
He added that the capacity of the Mahdiyah intersection, known as “Al-Sail Al-Kabeer Road,” will rise to accommodate more than 350,000 vehicles daily.
On real estate development, Al-Sultan noted that various residential projects are underway, and that the city is encouraging development near public transport stations and along main corridors.
