Egyptian Senate Speaker Essam El-Din Farid has affirmed that the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states is an integral part of both Egyptian and Arab national security, stressing that Egypt’s position is purely defensive and does not target any Arab country, including Yemen.

His remarks came during a Senate plenary session, where Farid announced he had received a letter from Yemeni Shura Council Chairman Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, expressing support for Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s stance on Egypt’s participation in defending Saudi security. The letter described this as a reflection of brotherly ties and a commitment to the Arab Joint Defense Treaty.

Farid explained that Yemen’s position reflects the will of its people and leadership, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council headed by Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi. He emphasized that defending Saudi territory, borders, sovereignty, and holy sites is a response to any external aggression, coordinated between the two countries, and extends to any Arab nation requesting Egyptian support.

The Senate speaker stated: “Egypt stands with its brothers as a shield for protection, not a sword for aggression,” stressing that Cairo would never contemplate attacking Yemen.

He also emphasized that the stability of Sudan, Libya, and Somalia is a priority for Egypt, reaffirming a commitment to non-interference in other countries’ affairs and expressing hope that diplomatic efforts will succeed in ending conflicts and achieving peace.
