GCC chief rejects Houthi claims against Saudi Arabia as baseless

Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, strongly condemned and denounced the statements made by the Houthi military spokesman, describing the allegations against Saudi Arabia as baseless and unfounded accusations. He said these were a desperate and blatant attempt to distort facts and evade responsibility for the group’s actions, which have deepened the suffering of the Yemeni people and threatened the security and stability of the region.

Albudaiwi stressed that such irresponsible statements will not alter the established facts, foremost among them Saudi Arabia’s sincere efforts to support the Yemeni people, contribute to security and stability, advance the political solution process, and provide humanitarian and relief aid, in line with its responsibility toward Yemen and its people.

The Secretary-General also emphasized that the security of maritime navigation and freedom of international trade are fundamental pillars of regional and international stability. He said any attempts to target international waterways are a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Albudaiwi called on the international community to take a firm stance against these false Houthi claims and threats, and to work toward implementing Security Council resolutions to ensure the protection of maritime navigation and prevent any practices that endanger the security of international sea lanes.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed the GCC’s full support for Saudi Arabia and its backing for all measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its security, sovereignty, and interests.
