Defense Ministry: Regional threats real, every nation has right to protect interests

Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Turki Al-Maliki said the region and the world are facing both real and emerging threats, stressing that every country has the right to take necessary military or political measures to protect its interests and address these threats.

In an interview with Al-Ekhbariya TV, Al-Maliki stated that these threats are not limited to the Middle East but extend worldwide. He explained that each nation has its own mechanisms for dealing with risks, whether through military or political means, to safeguard its national interests.

He noted that the announcement of the joint defensive naval coalition was the result of a deep understanding of the scale of current and emerging threats, confirming ongoing coordination among Red Sea littoral states to enhance maritime security and protect shipping lanes.

Al-Maliki pointed out that Saudi Arabia, through the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, has achieved significant accomplishments in recent years in countering maritime threats, including intercepting drones, fast boats, and naval mines.

The Defense Ministry spokesman emphasized that the responsibility for maintaining maritime security and stability does not rest solely with the littoral states, but is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation from all parties to ensure safe navigation and regional stability.
