High temperatures and thunderstorms expected across Saudi regions today

The National Center of Meteorology, in its report on Saturday, 18 Safar 1448 AH (August 1, 2026), forecast continued high temperatures in parts of the Eastern Province and Riyadh, with a chance of thunderstorms in their southern areas.

The report also indicated a likelihood of thunderstorms in parts of Jazan and Asir, accompanied by active surface winds stirring dust and sand in those regions, as well as in parts of Makkah and Najran.

The center noted that strong winds may cause near-zero horizontal visibility, especially along the road between Wadi Al-Dawasir and Sharurah.

Red Sea and Arabian Gulf conditions

Regarding the Red Sea, the report stated that surface winds will be southwesterly to southeasterly at 10–25 km/h in the northern part, and westerly to northwesterly at 20–45 km/h in the central and southern parts, reaching over 50 km/h with the formation of thunderstorm clouds in the south.

Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter in the north, and from one to two meters in the central and southern parts, possibly exceeding two meters with thunderstorms. The sea will be slight in the north and moderate to rough in the central and southern areas.

In the Arabian Gulf, winds will be northeasterly to northwesterly in the north, and westerly to northwesterly in the central and southern parts at 10–25 km/h, with wave heights from half a meter to one meter and slight sea conditions.
