Jeddah authorities seize 3,699 counterfeit clothing items, refer violators

Jeddah Municipality has successfully prevented 3,699 counterfeit clothing items, bearing fake sports club logos and brand trademarks, from reaching local markets. The seizures followed two inspection campaigns targeting illegal sites in the southern and central parts of the governorate, as part of ongoing efforts to combat unauthorized commercial activities.

Yasser bin Siraj Bakhsh, Director General of Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena, said the campaigns resulted in the destruction of all confiscated clothing. Authorities also seized 19 devices and pieces of equipment used for sewing, embroidery, printing, and cutting. The violators have been referred to the relevant authorities for further legal action.

During a joint field campaign in the Al-Jamaa sub-municipality area, inspection teams discovered two rooms inside a residential property being used for sewing, embroidering, and printing counterfeit trademarks onto clothing. The operation led to the seizure and destruction of 1,029 counterfeit items, along with the confiscation of eight machines and tools, including embroidery, sewing, printing, and cutting equipment.

Additionally, 850 items without any logos were handed over to the Estidama charity for reuse.

In a separate incident, authorities uncovered a commercial apartment being used for illegal activities, where 2,670 items bearing counterfeit trademarks were seized and destroyed in the presence of the relevant agencies.

The two campaigns involved the Al-Jamaa and Al-Aziziyah sub-municipalities, as well as the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Ministry of Commerce, Civil Defense, the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, and field enforcement teams.

Jeddah Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing field inspections to raise compliance levels, enhance regulatory efficiency, and crack down on illegal activities exploiting residential sites, in order to protect consumers and ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors.
