Weqaa warns against burning or reusing pesticide containers at home

The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) has warned of the dangers of burning pesticide containers or reusing them at home or for storing products, stressing that these containers contain toxic chemical residues that cannot be removed through ordinary cleaning.

The center explained that burning pesticide containers anywhere may release toxic dioxin gases into the air, which can cause cancer and respiratory problems.

It added that reusing pesticide containers for household purposes, such as storing food or water, watering livestock, or storing animal feed, can lead to acute poisoning and long-term kidney failure because pesticide particles remain inside the container.

In this context, Weqaa emphasized the importance of following approved procedures for the safe disposal of pesticide containers and not using them for any other purpose to protect public health and community safety.
