UK and Mauritania strongly condemn Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia

Britain has strongly condemned threats issued by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, including the imposition of a naval blockade, stressing that such provocations further destabilize the region, threaten freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, and undermine efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.

In a statement issued today, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office reaffirmed that the United Kingdom stands firmly with Saudi Arabia and its regional partners in the face of these threats, calling on the Houthi militia to immediately halt its escalatory actions.

Mauritania also strongly condemned, in the strongest terms, the statements and threats made by the so-called military spokesperson of the Houthi militia, describing them as false claims targeting the security and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia, and as a threat to maritime navigation and the safety of international shipping lanes.

In a statement released today by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mauritania reaffirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia, its steadfast support in confronting any threats to the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, and vital interests, and its backing of Saudi Arabia’s right to take any measures it deems necessary to protect its territory, citizens, and maritime navigation.
