Speaking to Al Ekhbariya TV, he explained that laser thermal therapy is among the latest techniques in neurosurgery. The procedure involves inserting a thin glass laser probe, less than 1 mm in diameter, into the targeted brain area through a small opening in the skull no larger than 2 mm.
Aldahash noted that once the probe reaches the targeted area, laser heat is precisely applied to dissolve the problematic tissue.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre recently implemented laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) for the first time in Saudi Arabia, expanding treatment options for certain cases of drug-resistant focal epilepsy and select brain tumors. The minimally invasive procedure can serve as an alternative to open surgery in suitable cases.
