Saudi Arabia resorted to military action against militias in Iraq, academic says

Political communication professor Mutlaq Al-Mutairi said Saudi Arabia was compelled to take military action against militias in Iraq, noting that the airstrike carried out by the Kingdom was not the first option, as diplomatic channels were initially pursued.

Speaking in an interview with Al Ekhbariya TV, he added that the killing of six members of the Revolutionary Guard demonstrates the precision of the airstrike and that the operation targeted its intended objectives.

A Saudi official source had earlier affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to its relationship with Iraq, both its government and people, stressing that the recent airstrike was not directed at the Iraqi people or government.

The source explained that the airstrike targeted militia capabilities that threatened Saudi Arabia’s security and attacked its vital civil and economic facilities, emphasizing that the operation was a precise and limited response confined to militia military warehouses.
