AI technologies boost reliability and security of Interior Ministry services

Thamer bin Mohammed Alharbi, Deputy Minister of Interior for Technology Affairs, said the Ministry of Interior has harnessed modern technologies and artificial intelligence to protect people and deliver reliable and secure services. He noted that the ministry’s technical capabilities have made it a model in providing security and humanitarian services to citizens, residents, and visitors, as well as protecting the environment and enhancing public safety in buildings, public spaces, and roads.

Alharbi made these remarks during the launch of the Ministry of Interior’s pavilion at the LEAP 2026 conference and exhibition in Riyadh, under the theme "Technological Solutions for a Secure Nation." He emphasized that the ministry’s mission remains focused on protecting people, building trust, and empowering those who serve the public, despite evolving technologies and changing societal expectations.

Digital identity and Nafath platform successes

Alharbi explained that digital trust is fundamental to digital services, highlighting that the national digital identity platform "Nafath," developed in partnership with the National Information Center, has become a cornerstone for transforming trust into national digital capability. He stated that Nafath serves more than 32 million users, has enabled over 6.5 billion transactions, and is integrated with more than 1,245 platforms and applications.

Marafiq Maydan system and intelligent agents

Alharbi noted that the ministry does not aim to build a single technical system, but rather to develop institutional capabilities that can keep pace with technological advancements and manage them responsibly and securely. He explained that "Marafiq Maydan" focuses on building context, understanding the nature of incidents, gathering information, setting priorities, and coordinating specialized capabilities, relying on agentic orchestration to serve human objectives.

Integrated services through Open Absher

Alharbi stressed the importance of integration with external partners to achieve objectives that span multiple institutional boundaries, highlighting the role of "Open Absher" services in providing the necessary governance framework for such integration. This is achieved through an open, interoperable design that allows coordination of services among various entities within approved governance structures.

Absher Marafiq and a leap in digital interaction

Alharbi added that Absher Marafiq represents a completely new model for interacting with government services. Since its launch, it has handled more than 3.3 million interactions and completed over 348,000 actual transactions, with a completion rate of 96 percent, in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Digital Government Authority.
