Funeral for mother and four children killed in Jazan house fire set for Wednesday

Ajel has learned from its sources that Al-Laqiya village, in the Samtah governorate south of Jazan, will hold the funeral on Wednesday for the mother and her four children who died in a house fire more than two weeks ago.

Speaking to Ajel, Abdullah bin Ibrahim Akour, head of the Rifaq Association for Honoring the Dead in Samtah, said the burial of the Al-Mahnashi family, victims of the house fire, is scheduled for next Wednesday.

He confirmed that a women’s team of six will handle the washing and shrouding of the deceased, supported by three drivers and three vehicles to manage the funeral processions. Prayers will be held at Sheikh Ali Al-Harithi Mosque in Abu Hajar Al-Ala village, with burial to follow at Al-Laqiya cemetery.

What is the condition of the father?

Ajel sources confirmed that the father, Abdulrahman bin Hassan Mahnashi, is currently in intensive care at King Fahd Central Hospital in critical and unstable condition after sustaining injuries in the family house fire in Al-Laqiya—a tragedy that deeply affected the Jazan community.

Ajel previously reported details of the fire at the Mahnashi family home, which resulted in the deaths of a mother and her four children, including a one-year-old girl.

What do we know about the incident?

A mother and her four children lost their lives, and the father was critically injured, after a fire broke out in their home in Al-Laqiya village, Samtah governorate, south of Jazan, due to an electrical short circuit.

According to available information, the fire erupted inside the house, prompting neighbors to intervene in an attempt to rescue the family and call the authorities. Despite their efforts, the mother and children died at the scene.

Jabriel Al-Qubaie, spokesperson for the Jazan Health Cluster, said Samtah General Hospital received an emergency call about the fire on Tuesday evening, July 21, 2026. Medical and emergency teams responded immediately, following standard treatment protocols.

He noted that the hospital received six cases, including the father, who suffered cardiac arrest and was resuscitated before being transferred to King Fahd Central Hospital in Jazan for further care. He is currently in intensive care in critical and unstable condition.

The incident resulted in five deaths from smoke inhalation: a 37-year-old woman, an 11-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, a 6-year-old boy, and a one-year-old girl.
