Heavy thunderstorms and flash floods expected across several Saudi regions Sunday

The National Center for Meteorology on Sunday forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms, which may lead to flash floods and hail showers, affecting parts of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha, as well as the highlands of Makkah.

The report added that strong winds stirring dust and sand are expected in these areas, as well as in the coastal parts of Madinah and Makkah.

The center also noted that early morning fog is likely to form along the eastern region’s coast, with a chance of rain-bearing thunderclouds and strong winds in southern parts of the region.

Sea conditions and surface winds

The center stated that surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 20 to 45 km/h, with wave heights between one and two meters and moderate to rough seas toward the Gulf of Aqaba.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northeasterly to southeasterly at 10 to 25 km/h, with waves reaching half a meter to one meter and slight sea conditions.
