Heavy thunderstorms and flash floods expected across southern and western Saudi Arabia

The National Center for Meteorology on Sunday forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms, which may lead to flash floods and hail, across parts of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha, as well as the highlands of Makkah.

The meteorology report added that strong winds stirring dust and sand are expected in these areas, as well as along the coastal parts of Madinah and Makkah.

The report also noted that fog is likely to form during early morning hours along the eastern coastal region, with a chance of rain-bearing thunderclouds and strong winds in southern parts of the Eastern Province.

Sea conditions and surface winds

The center said surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds between 20 and 45 km/h, with waves rising from one to two meters and sea conditions ranging from moderate to rough, especially toward the Gulf of Aqaba.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northeasterly to southeasterly at speeds of 10 to 25 km/h, with wave heights from half a meter to one meter and generally slight sea conditions.
