Targeted inspections focus 70% on high-impact activities, says environmental compliance center

The National Center for Environmental Compliance has announced that targeted inspections of the most environmentally impactful activities accounted for 70% of all visits in the first half of this year, with total inspections exceeding 26,000. This increase follows the implementation of a targeted monitoring approach.

Abdulmajeed Al-Harbi, Director of the Inspection Department, explained that the adoption of targeted monitoring has improved operational efficiency, resulting in a 13% decrease in field visits compared to the same period last year. He noted that this strategy has enabled the center to enhance inspection processes and outcomes within available resources.

Al-Harbi added that the updated "Environmental Inspection" platform, launched at the beginning of this year, has streamlined the registration of establishments with environmental impact. The platform also allows for rapid submission of objections and corrective action plans, facilitating follow-up procedures and reducing the need for repeated inspections.

Strengthening cooperation and women's participation

Al-Harbi also highlighted increased collaboration with relevant authorities and the implementation of joint visits to detect non-compliance, which has saved time and effort for the center's inspectors, particularly at locations such as fuel stations and service centers. He also noted joint dust control campaigns in Riyadh, conducted in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and Riyadh Municipality.

The first half of 2026 also saw active participation by women in field inspections, with their share rising to 10% of all inspectors during the last Hajj season.
