Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, Deputy Minister for Water Affairs at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, said the Cabinet’s decision to designate 2027 as the 'Year of Water' reflects the leadership’s commitment to the importance of water and its role in development and the economy, noting that water plays a crucial part in daily life.

Speaking in a phone interview with Saudi TV, he added that the move also aims to raise public awareness about the value of water, strengthen cooperation among government entities, and, on an international level, enhance the Kingdom’s presence in regional and global water issues. He noted that 2027 will see Saudi Arabia host the World Water Forum, the largest water conference in the world.

Al-Shaibani emphasized that since the launch of Vision 2030, the water sector has undergone significant transformation, including regulatory frameworks, governance, role distribution, and a complete restructuring of the sector, all of which have improved services and projects.

He explained that the next phase will focus on long-term planning and resource sustainability, improving services and efficiency, leveraging innovation and technology, and reducing costs.
