Four Asir cities gain WHO healthy city status after meeting 80 criteria

Four cities in the Asir region have joined the World Health Organization’s network of accredited healthy cities after meeting 80 international standards, marking a significant step in the region’s efforts to build sustainable healthy environments and enhance quality of life and community health.

Asir Governor and Chairman of the Regional Development Authority Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz received the accreditation certificates for Abha, Tareeb, Mahayel Asir, and King Khalid University as healthy cities from Minister of Health Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel, following their fulfillment of the required criteria under the Healthy Cities Program.

The accreditation is part of an initiative aimed at improving public health, supporting the creation of sustainable healthy environments, and raising the quality of life in the region by meeting internationally recognized standards under the Healthy Cities Program.

Meeting these standards qualified the four entities to receive accreditation certificates, further strengthening Asir’s position among regions working to develop healthy environments and improve quality of life.

The announcement was made during a ceremony inaugurating several health projects and initiatives in the region, attended by Minister of Education Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan, Minister of Health Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel, CEO of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre Dr. Majid bin Ibrahim Al-Fayyad, President of King Khalid University Dr. Faleh bin Rajallah Al-Solami, Governor of the General Authority for Awqaf Imad Al-Kharashi, and a number of officials and leaders from government, health, and education sectors.
