The issue of the occupied Palestinian territories topped the agenda at the meeting of foreign ministers from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as Saudi Arabia continued its pivotal role in supporting the organization and strengthening unity on the Palestinian cause, according to political analyst Dr. Furat Al-Bassam.

Speaking to Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Bassam said Saudi Arabia remains central in backing the OIC and fostering a unified stance on Palestine, noting that Saudi diplomatic efforts have led intensive campaigns to rally international recognition for an independent Palestinian state.

The analyst highlighted that Saudi Arabia was the driving force behind the creation of the OIC at the height of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, underscoring the Kingdom's enduring connection to the organization and the Palestinian issue.

Al-Bassam also discussed the election of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as Secretary-General of the OIC, describing him as a "deeply committed Arab and Islamic figure" with over three decades of diplomatic experience.

He said the newly elected Secretary-General "deserves this position," referring to his selection to lead the OIC.
