The Kingdom of Denmark has strongly condemned the attacks launched by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia, including repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure and threats to commercial shipping.

This came in a statement delivered by Ambassador Kristina Markus Lassen, Denmark’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, before the international body in New York.

Lassen said Denmark is deeply concerned by the escalation of clashes across several fronts in Yemen, holding the Houthis fully responsible for the recent escalation and calling for an immediate halt to all attacks.

She also noted that Iran’s continued support for the Houthis enables them to persist with their attacks, further aggravating the crisis and undermining efforts to achieve peace in Yemen, in addition to increasing the risk of further destabilizing the region.

Calls to renew sanctions and halt arms transfers

Lassen stressed the need to effectively curb the illegal transfer of weapons and military support to the Houthis, expressing Denmark’s hope for the renewal of sanctions next month and their more effective implementation.

She added that Houthi practices have prevented the United Nations from delivering humanitarian aid to large parts of Yemen, underlining the importance of full compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law.

Comprehensive political solution

The Danish ambassador affirmed that a comprehensive political process under United Nations auspices remains the only sustainable solution to the crisis in Yemen, urging the Houthis to immediately cease their attacks and engage constructively to alleviate the humanitarian suffering endured by the Yemeni people.
