Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman donated blood, officially launching the 2026 National Blood Donation Campaign. This humanitarian gesture reflects his ongoing commitment to supporting charitable work and promoting public health, as well as his continued backing of national initiatives that foster a culture of giving and volunteerism, encouraging the public to help save lives.
The Crown Prince's donation sends an inspiring national and humanitarian message, embodying the values of solidarity and compassion that define Saudi society. It highlights the importance of blood donation as a noble act that, with God's will, saves lives, supports patients, and strengthens the culture of volunteerism and generosity in the community.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular, voluntary blood donation, instill a sense of social responsibility, and help achieve self-sufficiency in blood supplies. Blood donation remains one of the most vital humanitarian practices, saving the lives of patients in need of urgent medical care, including cancer and blood disorder patients and those in critical condition.
This campaign continues the leadership's longstanding support for humanitarian and health initiatives and seeks to boost community participation. It aims to increase voluntary blood donation rates and support the healthcare system's efforts to provide safe and sustainable blood supplies, ensuring patients' needs are met across the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia continues to make significant progress in promoting a culture of voluntary blood donation. In 2025, more than 900,000 people donated blood, as part of ongoing efforts to increase voluntary donations and ensure a sustainable national blood supply. These efforts align with the Health Sector Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030, which aim to foster a vibrant society with improved health and quality of life.
It is worth noting that the 2025 national campaign, also launched by the Crown Prince, had a wide-reaching health and social impact. It quadrupled the number of donors, setting a record for Saudi blood banks with over 65,000 donors, all of whom gave voluntarily, with more than 85% being first-time donors. This momentum directly supported patient needs, benefiting over 63,000 people with blood units, 10,000 with platelets, and 10,000 with plasma, enhancing the readiness of blood banks and establishing voluntary donation as a sustainable social practice.
