Saudi minister discusses expanding AI computing capacity with Amazon and Microsoft in Seattle

Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Swaha held meetings in Seattle with executives from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft to discuss accelerating the expansion of artificial intelligence computing infrastructure and capabilities in Saudi Arabia, and integrating these with the companies’ services to support large-scale deployment of AI models and applications.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Communications on X, Al-Swaha met with AWS CEO Matt Garman to discuss speeding up the implementation and expansion of the AI Zone, which AWS is developing in partnership with Humane, and adopting AWS Trainium accelerators within the Kingdom’s computing infrastructure. The talks also covered broadening the use of AWS AI services to support large-scale operation of models and applications.

In Seattle, Al-Swaha also met with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella to discuss accelerating the adoption of AI solutions across government entities and businesses, and strengthening national capabilities in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.

The meetings concluded Al-Swaha’s visit to the United States, part of ongoing efforts to enhance Saudi Arabia’s partnerships with leading global technology firms and to develop national infrastructure and capabilities, supporting the growth of the digital economy and advancing the Kingdom’s leadership in AI and advanced technologies.
