New public education law replaces four existing regulations in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s new public education law consolidates four existing regulations that previously governed various aspects of the sector, introducing a unified legislative framework aimed at modernizing and standardizing the education system.

According to information obtained by Ajel, the new law abolishes the following:

* The Adult Education and Literacy Law.

* The Private Schools Regulation.

* The Foreign Schools Regulation.

* The Regulation for Saudi Schools Abroad.

Despite the repeal of these regulations, they will remain in effect for one transitional year from the date the new public education law comes into force. This is to ensure a smooth transition to the new system and allow time for the issuance of necessary regulatory guidelines and manuals.

This change reflects the law’s objective to unify the legislative reference for public education, replacing a patchwork of separate regulations with a comprehensive legal framework. The new system aims to organize all elements of the educational process, strengthen governance, clarify roles and responsibilities, and update existing provisions in line with the country’s education development goals.
