Makkah Pact strategic committee discusses joint deterrence mechanisms

Abdul Karim Shah, Director of the Islamabad Center for Political Studies, said the first meeting of the political and defense strategic committee for the Makkah Pact discussed mechanisms to activate joint deterrence among the three countries against any emergency, in light of regional developments.

In a call with Al Ekhbariya TV, he added that the meeting also addressed activating deterrence against any challenge to a member state, regional developments and unrest, and the highest readiness of joint forces. He noted that the committee discussed joint defense industries and monitoring security disturbances in the region.

The political and defense strategic committee for the Makkah Pact for joint defense issued a statement following the meeting of foreign and defense ministers and armed forces chiefs from Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Turkey, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Istanbul.

The statement affirmed the three countries' commitment to joint action to achieve peace and stability in the region by supporting de-escalation efforts and peaceful solutions to crises, based on their regional responsibilities. The participating countries agreed to take further steps to institutionalize cooperation under the Makkah Pact, strengthening collective solidarity and supporting the credibility and effectiveness of joint deterrence and defense, and contributing to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.
