Environment ministry urges animal owners to protect pets from extreme heat

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has called on pet owners and animal caretakers to take preventive measures to protect animals from the effects of rising temperatures during the summer, stressing the importance of providing basic needs, preparing suitable shelters, and ensuring veterinary care to reduce health risks associated with heatwaves.

The ministry emphasized the need to provide animals with constant access to food and water, and to equip barns and shelters to protect them from harsh weather conditions. It also advised keeping animals away from direct sunlight, especially during peak heat hours.

The ministry stressed the importance of checking on animals at least once a day and monitoring their health through a qualified veterinarian for regular examinations and necessary care. It also urged adherence to vaccination and immunization schedules to prevent diseases and limit the spread of infections.

Animal owners were urged to follow animal welfare standards and take all necessary precautions to prevent harm during periods of extreme heat, in line with the Animal Welfare Act of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The ministry noted that animal welfare is a religious and ethical responsibility, and is also a key factor in maintaining animal health and improving productivity, helping to protect animals and reduce risks associated with high temperatures during the summer.
