Diplomacy essential for regional security, says Saudi foreign minister

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said the region is at a critical juncture that requires strengthening dialogue, diplomacy, and joint action to address regional and international challenges. He stressed that lasting stability cannot be achieved through military force, but rather through sustainable diplomatic solutions that address the root causes of crises.

Speaking via video link at the 16th Gulf Research Forum in Cambridge, United Kingdom, he added that recent developments have demonstrated the impact of regional tensions on the international stage, affecting global security, energy markets, and economic growth. He called for efforts to be directed toward preserving the existing international order and creating the necessary conditions for political solutions that lead to lasting security and peace, rather than settling for temporary de-escalation.

The foreign minister noted that building a more stable regional order requires commitment to the fundamental principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, foremost among them respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, good neighborliness, ensuring freedom of navigation, and adherence to international law. He affirmed that these principles are the foundation of any stable regional system.

He also emphasized that the region possesses significant potential for a more prosperous future, expressing optimism about overcoming current challenges. He pointed out that Saudi Vision 2030 is based on the firm belief that development, innovation, and creating opportunities are the best path to stability and conflict avoidance.

Prince Faisal said that making the most of this period requires working to establish a more cooperative and stable regional order, based on clear principles, mutual respect, and sustainable agreements that achieve peace, security, and prosperity for all.
