UN Security Council condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, affirms Kingdom's right to self-defense

The UN Security Council has strongly condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, affirming the Kingdom's right to defend itself.

In a statement, the Council denounced the Houthi assaults on Saudi Arabia, the resulting harm to civilians and infrastructure, and reiterated Saudi Arabia's right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

Council members emphasized that the Houthis' military escalation in Yemen, continued attacks on Saudi Arabia, threats to international shipping in the Red Sea, and advances near Bab al-Mandab all risk expanding the conflict, threaten maritime security and global trade, and undermine regional and international efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.
