Saudia and Garuda Indonesia have signed a joint commercial framework agreement, marking a new phase of integration in their strategic partnership. The move aims to broaden connectivity between their networks, enhance the travel experience, and offer more diverse options for guests across the markets served by both airlines.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amoudi, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Indonesia, by Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, and Garuda Indonesia CEO Glenny Kairupan.

This agreement builds on the memorandum of understanding announced in July 2026, reflecting ongoing progress in the partnership between the two carriers. With the signing of the joint commercial framework, both parties will begin the process of securing regulatory approvals and finalizing necessary agreements and arrangements, ahead of the planned launch of the joint business in 2027.

The joint business is expected to expand travel options and connectivity between Indonesia and Australia on one side, and Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa on the other. The combined networks of Saudia and Garuda Indonesia will provide access to more than 120 destinations across these markets, with future opportunities to expand connectivity through new routes and direct flights to additional destinations.

The partnership also aims to offer greater flexibility to guests by integrating fare options and launching joint commercial initiatives, as well as enhancing the travel experience through cooperation between loyalty programs, technical services, and airport services. Special focus will be given to Hajj and Umrah flights from Indonesia, with both airlines working to improve connectivity and the travel experience for Indonesian pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia.

Ibrahim Al-Omar said: “This agreement marks an important step in our partnership with Garuda Indonesia. By integrating our extensive networks, we are opening up broader travel opportunities to more than 120 destinations, including Indonesia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Our ambition goes beyond expanding connectivity; we aim to deliver a more seamless and integrated travel experience for our guests, while continuing to enhance the journey for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from Indonesia to the Kingdom.”

Garuda Indonesia CEO Glenny Kairupan said: “This agreement is a milestone in our partnership with Saudia and opens up new prospects to benefit from the integration of our networks. Garuda’s network spans Indonesia and Australia, while Saudia offers broad coverage in the Kingdom, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Through this integration, we are expanding travel options, connecting more destinations and markets, and providing a smoother experience for travelers.”

He added: “As our partnership moves into a more integrated phase of joint business, we look forward to enhancing coordination in network planning, commercial initiatives, and the guest experience at every stage of the journey, including exploring opportunities to unify service points at airports. We are confident these steps will strengthen both carriers’ presence in target markets, deliver greater value to guests, and support sustainable long-term growth for the partnership.”
