Saudi FDA takes action over misleading claims in medical device ad

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has detected a violation involving an advertisement for a medical device marketed for reducing pain and improving joint function in cases of mild osteoarthritis. The ad included inaccurate and exaggerated medical claims, which contravene regulations governing the promotion of medical devices and supplies.

The SFDA has taken the necessary legal measures against the violating company. Relevant authorities have closed the healthcare facility involved, and the advertiser has been referred to the appropriate agencies to complete further legal procedures.

The authority noted that such violations are subject to the Medical Devices and Supplies Law and its executive regulations. Penalties can include a fine of up to five million riyals (SAR), temporary closure of the facility for up to 180 days, a ban on engaging in medical device-related activities for the same period, and license revocation.

The SFDA urged the public to report violations via the unified number (19999) and to verify medical information and claims from official sources before making health or treatment decisions.
