Saudi foreign minister attends OIC emergency meeting in Jeddah

Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan took part today in the 23rd extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah.

He began his address by congratulating Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his appointment as the new Secretary-General of the OIC, wishing him success in his role. He also expressed Saudi Arabia's gratitude to Hussein Ibrahim Taha for his efforts during his previous tenure.

The foreign minister stressed that Islamic cooperation and solidarity are now more essential than ever in light of the crises and challenges facing the Islamic world. He noted that member states possess the capabilities to play an active role in shaping international balances. He added that Saudi Arabia believes the next phase requires serious reform of the organization to enhance its ability to implement decisions and improve the efficiency of its institutions.

Saudi Arabia's stance on the Palestinian cause

The minister reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's firm position on the Palestinian issue and its full support for the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state based on the two-state solution, to achieve just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region. He strongly condemned the Israeli authorities' announcement of a new tender for settlement units under the E1 project, warning of the dangers this poses to the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state. He also reiterated Saudi Arabia's condemnation of repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli officials and settlers under the protection of Israeli forces.

Strengthening joint Islamic action

Prince Faisal concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the strength of the OIC derives from the solidarity and unity of its member states. He stressed Saudi Arabia's continued support for all efforts that enhance the organization's role and serve the interests and aspirations of the Islamic world for security, stability, and prosperity.

Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji also attended the extraordinary session.
