Masam project clears 1,448 landmines and explosives in Yemen in one week

The Masam project, operated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, continued its mission to clear landmines from Yemeni territory, successfully removing 1,448 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices across several provinces during the fifth week of July 2026.

According to the project, the cleared items included 17 anti-personnel mines, 83 anti-tank mines, 1,310 unexploded munitions, and 38 explosive devices.

The clearance operations spanned multiple provinces. In Aden, teams removed two unexploded munitions in Sheikh Othman district, 20 anti-tank mines, 766 unexploded munitions, and eight explosive devices in Aden city. In Hays district, Al-Hodeidah province, 11 unexploded munitions were cleared, while in Mukalla district, Hadramout province, nine anti-personnel mines and 321 unexploded munitions were removed.

In Hajjah province, the team in Midi district cleared two anti-personnel mines, 61 anti-tank mines, 162 unexploded munitions, and 30 explosive devices. Three unexploded munitions were removed in Al-Mudaraba district, Lahij province, and one unexploded munition each in Al-Wadi district, Marib province, and Ain district, Shabwa province.

In Taiz province, operations included the removal of three unexploded munitions in Mokha district, three anti-personnel mines, one anti-tank mine, and 18 unexploded munitions in Dhubab district, as well as 16 unexploded munitions in Al-Muzaffar district and seven in Al-Qahira district.

According to the project, the total number of items cleared in July reached 7,101, bringing the overall total since Masam’s launch to 578,226 landmines and explosive devices removed from Yemeni territory.

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting efforts to clear landmines in Yemen through the Masam project, aiming to enhance civilian safety and help Yemenis live in a more secure environment.
