Autumn begins in Saudi Arabia with gradual cooling, clearer change by November

Autumn officially began in Saudi Arabia today, September 1, following the end of summer, which started on June 1 and lasted until the end of August. The autumn season will continue until the end of November, with forecasts indicating a gradual change in temperatures over the coming weeks, rather than an immediate drop as the season begins.

Burgess Al-Falih, a member of the Afaq Astronomical Society, told SPA that the meteorological start of autumn marks a transitional phase characterized by fluctuating weather patterns and relatively moderate temperatures. He noted that changes in the weather will develop gradually in the coming weeks, becoming more noticeable and tangible by November.

September retains distinctive climate features, historically ranking as the fourth hottest month of the year on average, while receiving the least rainfall. The month is also marked by rapid weather changes and temperature fluctuations, especially until mid-September, due to the Kingdom's vast area and diverse terrain.

Signs of the transition to autumn appear gradually in the northern regions of Saudi Arabia, where evening temperatures tend to drop, while daytime conditions remain warm. At the start of the season, temperatures can still reach the 30s Celsius.

Evenings during this period become more moderate and suitable for outdoor activities and recreation, according to Al-Falih, who also pointed out that autumn is a favorable season for planting various crops.

Autumn's characteristics are not limited to weather and agriculture; some regions of the Kingdom also witness the passage of migratory birds during this season, particularly along the coasts and in wetland areas.
